MY TURN: Grizzlies' decision on head coach

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - For every one of us who got excited cheering on the Memphis Grizzlies this year, it's a puzzling outcome. Lionel Hollins, the winningest coach in the team's history, gets dumped in an unceremonious fashion after taking the Grizzlies to the Western Conference finals for the first time ever. Of course, Hollins is not the only reason that the team went from being one of the worst in the NBA to one of the best, but his leadership was a major factor. Off the basketball court, we were happy to see Hollins embracing Memphis as his home. For many people in professional sports, putting down roots is not high on the priority list. The Grizzlies owners have a right to hire whoever they want to be their coach, but you can't expect the fans to be ambivalent about a decision like this. The new team executives are reportedly very numbers-oriented. I wonder if they've had a chance to look back at the statistics that show how many empty seats there were at FedEx Forum the year Lionel Hollins came to coach the team.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
