GPD officer accused of leaving city limits on duty recommended for termination

GERMANTOWN, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The Germantown police officer accused of leaving the suburb to visit a friend while on duty is being recommended for termination, though he is appealing that recommendation.

Officer Tarvis Davis was supposed to be working overnight when he reportedly left city limits on May 15. He did not respond to calls for his services and police personnel spent nearly a half hour searching for him.

Davis' captain spoke with him about the situation but did not issue an official statement of charges. It was another police department supervisor who reported the incident to the proper authorities. Because he did not follow protocol, Captain Mike Griffus was suspended for one day.

This is not the first time Officer Davis has been in trouble while working for the Germantown Police Department. On February 1, he crashed his patrol car while running a personal errand. For that incident, he was suspended for five days without pay.

Davis remains suspended with pay pending the appeal hearing.
