RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Seven adorable Virginia kittens survived a wild ride more than 400 miles from Hopewell to just outside Cleveland.

A man discovered the litter inside a tractor-trailer, curled up in a shipment of straw last week in Medina, Ohio.

"Someone knocked on the door at 7 a.m. and they had eight kittens," said Wendy Mirrotto, executive director of Kitten Krazy, runs the Medina non-profit shelter that took in the kittens. "They were found on a straw truck, at a mulch company. They certainly went on an adventure."

The kittens were in bad shape, and one did not survive. Mirrotto's mission was to feed the felines, and feed them fast.

"They were starving," Mirrotto said. "So, we bottle fed them because they were too small to eat for themselves. We had round-the-clock care for them. We had to mix the milk [and do] all the things a mommy cat does. We had to feed them every two to three hours."

In honor of their birth state, Mirrotto named all the kittens after places in Virginia. There's Bristol, Winchester, Norfolk, and of course, Richmond the cat.

"[Richmond] would fit in about one and a half palms of your hand. He's real tiny, about six weeks old, and super loveable," said Mirrotto.

Richmond, along with his six brothers and sisters, are all fine now, making their new home in Ohio. Eventually all of the seven cats will go up for adoption, as soon as they grow strong enough.
