Former Metro officer pleads guilty to possessing child porn

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A former Metro police officer could be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison for distributing child pornography.

William John Patterson, 41, of Hermitage pleaded guilty Wednesday in a U.S. District Court.

Officers were investigating a report of domestic violence at his home in Hermitage on Sept. 9, 2012, when they found thousands of videos and images of young children being abused.

Investigators learned Patterson had been receiving the images since October 2009.

Patterson worked as a police officer in Nashville for 11 years but resigned in 2006 during an internal affairs investigation.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 23.
