Firefighters battle Murfreesboro hay bale fire

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

The Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department, along with the Rutherford County Fire and Rescue responded to fire where several hay bales were ablaze.

The fire happened at 8:50 a.m. Saturday on Dejarnette Lane in Murfreesboro.

Crews arrived to find heavy white smoke and smoldering flames coming from the bales.

It took hours for the crews to extinguish the flames.

According to Commander Mark McCluskey, the landowner, J.D. Spain, arrived at with his tractor, and separated the bales.

After the bales where separated the firefighters where are able to put most the hotspots.

McCluskey added, "It's tough on these crews in this heat in their turnout gear."
 
It is unclear what initially ignited the bales.
