MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Shelby County Sheriff's deputies have a suspect in custody following the fatal shooting of a mother and the kidnapping of her daughter from their home in East Memphis Sunday morning.

Deputies say shots were fired at a home on Barkshire Drive early Sunday morning.

The homeowner, 41-year-old Rachel Harrington, was killed and her daughter was kidnapped.

According to Shelby County Sheriff's spokesperson Chip Washington, "When we arrived on the scene we found an individual in the house we believe to be the victim's mother had been shot and we believe that the estranged boyfriend shot her."

Investigators identified that boyfriend as 26-year-old Brandon Lee Spicer, who has also gone by the name Brandon Banks. Officers say he recently broke up with 25-year-old Tyranny Boyd.

Around 5 Sunday morning, Boyd called the sheriff's office and said that her ex was trying to break into her house.

Deputies say that the bedroom window on the house is apparently where the suspect tried to break in. The screen has been torn off and there's debris on the ground.

Investigators say after getting into the home Spicer shot and killed Boyd's mother. He killed two of the family's dogs as well, and then kidnapped Boyd at gunpoint.

Deputies put out an all points bulletin for Spicer. After about 8 hours on the run, Boyd was able to call a relative and tell them where her ex was keeping her.

Minutes later SWAT officers found them at The Trails Apartment complex located at Mt. Moriah and Kirby Parkway and arrested Spicer. Spicer is now locked up at the CJC facing murder and kidnapping charges.

His ex-girlfriend, Tyranny Boyd, was not hurt.
