MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Official charges have been filed against a man accused of kidnapping his estranged girlfriend after killing her mother in their home.

The suspect was just charged Sunday evening. The ex-girlfriend deputies say he kidnapped is safe, while neighbors remember her mother.

For more than 12 hours Sunday, Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies collected evidence from the house on Barkshire Drive following the shooting death of 41 year-old Rachel Harrington and kidnapping of her daughter.

Neighbor Phillip Griggs describes Harrington, "very nice person, her and her daughter">

Griggs knew something bad happened next door. He said, "'cause I woke up this morning and saw the blue lights and saw the crime scene tape."

Investigators have now formally charged 26-year-old Brandon Lee Spicer, also known as Banks, with first degree murder and aggravated kidnapping.

Police say he broke into the Harrington home, shot Ms. Harrington and two of her dogs, before kidnapping estranged girlfriend Tyrannay Boyd, Harrington's daughter.

A SWAT team later located the pair at a Hickory Hill apartment complex.

"I'm glad and relieved the daughter is okay and I'm also glad they caught the suspect", Griggs said.

He went on to say, "It just doesn't make any sense."

Neighbors were told to stay in their homes in the hours after the shooting as their searched for Spicer and Boyd.

Action News 5 has learned the two showed up at the St. Francis Hospital emergency room after the shooting, where Spicer told the staff he cut his leg playing basketball.

Investigators say Spicer actually kicked in a window at the Harrington home. Apparently, he and Boyd recently broke up.
