MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A 6-month-old is dead and three children are in critical condition following a two-car accident near the airport Tuesday morning. Three adults were also taken to the hospital. They are listed in non-critical condition.

The accident happened around 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of Winchester Road and Swinnea Road.

"Right now, we're praying for the family," said David Brock, who witnessed the accident. "It was rough to see."

Brock was one of several people who helped firefighters attend to the injured.

"It was a two reservist that happened to walk up and one of them immediately got on the baby that wasn't really breathing," he said.

According to Brock, the crash happened when a silver Pontiac collided with a red pickup truck. He says the Pontiac's driver jumped out and asked him for help.

"She saw me and said, 'Get the babies'. I come over and there were three toddlers and another lady laid across the three toddlers and an infant carrier upside down on top of the babies," added Brock.

Paramedics took the driver of the truck to the hospital.

"It was horrific 'cause they had to get the lady out. Kids, blood, glass everywhere," witness Tyrone Jackson described the scene he will not soon forget.

"Especially the little one. Wouldn't want that to happen to nobody," he added.

"Well, it's kind of sad but like my wife and I were talking, you never know from day to day what's going to happen," said James Finney, who watched as the driver of the pickup truck was loaded into an ambulance. "You know what I mean?"

Six ambulances initially responded to the accident.

It is unclear whether any of the children were properly secured.
