(WMC-TV) - Olive Branch police are investigating a shooting involving one of their own Tuesday. An injured suspect remains at The MED after being shot by an Olive Branch police officer in the Dogwood Manor subdivision.

"I was sitting in the house, watching TV. I heard a cop talking over his loud speaker. I looked out my front door ... a man standing in the middle of the road," said witness Jacob Ridings.

The officer did something most people in the Dogwood Manor neighborhood had never seen. The witnesses said the man shot in the street acted erratically.

"It was yelling, telling the suspect drop the gun, drop the gun. Get to the ground, get on the ground. The suspect would not comply, and the officer did what he had to do," said witness Stanley Perrin.

Witnesses said the man at one point aimed his gun at the officers.

According to Chief Don Gammage, it all started with an altercation at 6682 Valerie Drive in Olive Branch.

Neighbors said a man asked to do work at the house and stopped by to give an estimate. The man who answered the door had a gun. The worker took off, and someone called police.

"Officers encountered him walking through the neighborhood when an officer called to him. He brandished a firearm and pointed it at our officer," said Sgt. Jeff Abbott.

Witnesses said the suspect appeared to have been shot in the upper part of his body. His condition has not been released.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the subsequent investigation of the shooting. Outside agencies always investigate to avoid conflicts.
