(WMC-TV) – There's new drama regarding Shelby County Juvenile Court.  This time, it involves a judge and a county commissioner.

"I'm feeling that the judge has been a bit arrogant in sending this kind of letter to a county commissioner," said commissioner Henri Brooks.

The letter to which Brooks is referring effectively bans her from virtually any Juvenile Court proceeding.

"Judge (Curtis) Person considers the detrimental impact of your disrespectful public comments directed toward the Court as an institution of justice unfortunate, unfounded, and unworthy of any elected official," wrote court CAO Larry Scroggs in a letter to Brooks.

"He's taken a public policy issue and called out a commissioner in a personal way," said Brooks.

How did this war of words start?  Well, Brooks was behind an effort to allow so-called "community monitors" inside juvenile court following serious and systematic failures uncovered by a federal investigation she helped initiate.  Brooks has also expressed her displeasure during meetings on the topic.

"I'm fighting for fairness and equity for all children," said Brooks.

Apparently, the judge disagrees.  He decided to not only ban Brooks, but anyone working under her direction.

"And, quite frankly, he's really stepped over the line," said Brooks.

Judge Person also sees Brooks' apparent interest in running for Juvenile Court Clerk as a conflict of interest.  Brooks plans to contact the Department of Justice about the letter.
