Man charged in wrong-way crash; victim identified

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A man accused of causing a fiery crash that killed another driver remains hospitalized, recovering from his own injuries.

Andrae Willis, 34, has been charged with DUI, vehicular homicide, and reckless driving after a Sunday morning car wreck on I-240 at the Madison Avenue exit.

According to a Memphis Police Department accident report, Willis was driving the wrong way on the exit ramp when he collided head-on with a car that was exiting I-240 onto Madison Avenue. The first police officer on scene managed to rescue Willis but before he was able to return for the other driver, the car exploded. Paramedics pronounced the other driver, Robert Toon, dead on scene.

According to the accident report, Toon was a Bartlett resident with ties to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
