SHELBY COUNTY, TN -

(WMC-TV) – The suspect accused of attacking a gas station clerk at a Mapco store in Millington early Tuesday morning has been arrested. Information from the affidavit says that he recently arrived in the Mid-South.

Jose Flores, 20, was picked up Tuesday evening after being identified. He has confessed to the crime and is charged with criminal attempt, aggravated robbery, and kidnapping.

According to the affidavit, Flores is being held on no bond and just arrived in Memphis from New Mexico two weeks ago. He is considered a flight risk.

According to Shelby County sheriff's deputies, a convenience store clerk fought off an early morning attack from Flores who reportedly tried to sexually assault her. The man walked into the Mapco at the intersection Bethuel Road and Navy Road in Millington around 4:30 a.m. Investigators said he cased the store then walked over to the clerk, dragged her into the bathroom, and tried to rape her.

She fought back and managed to get away from him with only minor cuts and bruises to her face.
