Snakes, rats infest overgrown weeds on neglected property

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - Rodents and snakes on a neglected East Memphis property is frustrating for one of the neighbors next door.

Every summer, Theresa Duncan says she has to see overgrown grass and weeds next to her property.

"I just feel like nobody cares about me or about this area," said Duncan. "It's a bad feeling really."

She lives on East Holmes road and says she has tried repeatedly to get someone to clean up the strip of property between the rail and her fence.

"Looks like stalks of corn but it's not," she said about the weeds that reach about 7 feet tall.

Action News 5's Andrew Douglas began making calls to Canadian National Railway Company, who he learned owns the property. An hour after he arrived on the scene, crews

showed up with a bulldozer and a weed wacker to clean up the property.

"I've never seen a miracle happen this fast," said Duncan. "Channel five came to my rescue in less than an hour.

Action taken. Problem solved. And a Memphis homeowner is grateful for the help.

Duncan rejoiced at the sudden turn around and said, "Thank God for Action News 5."
