Police burn 40 lbs of marijuana

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - It was the largest marijuana bust ever made by the Mason Police Department.  They made it back in 2011, and now, they are burning the drugs up in an effort to properly dispose of them.

In fact, add a little gasoline, and 40 pounds of marijuana burns up just like that.

In late 2011, police arrested Wayne Taylor and took the drugs right out of his trunk.

"Coming through town, speeding. My officers stopped him for speeding, he was nervous, showed a Georgia ID, then showed a government of Jamaica ID," said Mason Police Chief Jim Paris.

Chief Paris is glad to finally be getting rid of these drugs.

His department was just given the OK by the US Attorney's office to burn them.

He says his officers now stay on the lookout in Mason.

"It's a shortcut off the interstate, parallel with I-40 coming from Shelby County to Nashville. They use Highway 70 a lot," added Paris.
