The tie is the first in the series between the two teams. The Tar Heels still hold the all-time advantage at 5-1-1.
North Carolina's Christina Gibbons started the scoring with 2 goals thirteen minutes apart to give them a 2-0 lead.
Hilton Head Island's Faith Lifer would get SC to within 1 with her goal just a few seconds later making it 2-1 at the half.
After NC made it 3-1, the Sandlappers would come back thanks to MVP Megan Robertson from Woodruff. She'd score in the 72nd minute to make it a 3-2 game, then had the assist to Watts on the game tying goal.
On the boys side, Gary O'Neill and Aaron Sparks had goals to give North Carolina a 2-0 win. It's the 3rd straight victory in the series for the Tar Heels who are now 3-1-3 all-time against South Carolina.
