It was unclear whether one of Memphis' prime hoop recruits would be academically cleared to play this upcoming season. That is until Monday.
University of Memphis Coach Josh Pastner announced small forward and four star recruit Kuran Iverson is academically eligible.
The incoming freshman is a 6'9" 210 pound wing who can slash to the hole. His size, ball handling, and ability to shoot from distance give him an advantage over smaller players at that position.
The Connecticut native and cousin of former NBA MVP Allen Iverson, averaged 17.2 points and 6.3 rebounds as a senior at Fitchburg Military Institute in Virginia last year.
Iverson is expected to start workouts with the Tigers this week after passing a physical.
With Iverson's clearance, the Tigers now only await the eligibility status of another top 100 recruit, point Guard Pookie Powell of Orlando. Pastner says that will not come until August, at the earliest.
