MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Chris Jones' has already been deemed mentally fit to stand trial. Now, Jones made his way downtown to court Wednesdau morning where he faced a judge.

Jones is charged with the murder of his wife, Heather Palumbo-Jones.

Just two months ago, Chris Jones said this to our cameras outside of Germantown court.

"I loved that woman more than anything. There's no way I've put my hands on her or ever put my hands on her," Jones told Action News Five.

His motion for a speedy trial was withdrawn Wednesday.

Now, his case is headed to a grand jury here in Shelby County.

Friends of Heather Polumbo-Jones have been at every hearing so far.

They promise to attend every hearing involving this case, because they loved their friend and want justice to be served in her death.

"There is a monster inside that hurt our friend and we want justice," says friend Melissa Smith.

"Like it was no big deal, just like he looked the day she was missing like it was nothing," continues friend Cari Cooper.

Chris Jones has confessed to his wife's murder.

Heather Polumbo-Jones' burned body was found dumped alongside Highway 64 near the Fayette - Shelby County line in mid-April.

Now that the case is in the hands of a grand jury, an indictment against Chris Jones could happen at any time.
