DYERSBURG, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A woman is under arrest after police say she tried to kidnap a small child right in front of the mother.

Dyersburg police officers were told by the child's mother that 51-year-old Deborah Claybrooks stopped in front of her home as her kids were playing outside. Claybrooks reportedly wanted to give the kids crayons and coloring books. That is when the mother says Claybrooks grabbed a 3-year-old and began walking toward her car.

The mother claims she was able to pull the child away. A witness on the scene called police.

When officers arrived minutes later, Claybrooks was taken into custody. She is charged with especially aggravated kidnapping.

The mother is warning parents – after experiencing something she thought would never happen in a town like Dyersburg.

"Keep your kids close and don't let nobody come and try to take them. If you don't know who they is, call the police," said Shatina Clay."I thought it only happened on TV and not in real life."

It is a moment three-year-old James Rodgers does not really remember, but something his mom will never forget.

"It scared me half to death when she tried to take him," she said. "She had him, and she wouldn't let him go."

The family said Claybrooks claimed she was not going to give the crayons and coloring books to the children.
