(WMC-TV) - St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter continues his comeback trail, set for a rehab start with the Memphis Redbirds on Saturday.
The Cardinals announcing the right-hander will pitch against the Oklahoma Redhawks this weekend, his second rehab start since going on the 60-day DL with back and shoulder issues.
Carpenter threw 54 pitches, 38 for strikes in a start for Double-A Springfield Monday.
The 2005 Cy Young Award winner has not pitched all season, sidelined by a nerve injury that causes numbness and tingling on the right side of his body.
Lately the 38 year-old has been dealing with a lower back injury that briefly delayed the process.
The Cardinals will have 30 days until they must either place him on the active roster or return him to the disabled list.
