MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis woman will face a judge after police say she ordered her pit bull to attack a 9-year-old child. Kathy Bennett is facing aggravated assault charges, according to the police affidavit.

The 49-year-old was arrested after Memphis police say she took her pit bull terrier to the boy's home last Friday night in the 400 block of East Norwood Avenue in South Memphis. That's near South Lauderdale and East Mallory Avenue.

According to the affidavit, Bennett commanded the dog to attack the boy, who was outside the home. Police say the child ran to the house safely and his grandmother stopped the attack and ordered Bennett to leave with the dog.

Bennett left the house but was arrested Saturday night. She is being held on a $60,000 bond.

The motive behind that attack has not been released, but more details could be learned during Bennett's hearing at 8:30 Monday morning.
