LEXINGTON, TN (WSMV) -

Four people died after a tractor trailer struck a cow on Interstate 40 in Henderson County then collided into two other vehicles, including a second semi, Tuesday night.

The wreck occurred around 9:50 p.m. at mile marker 109, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol says a tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound when it hit a cow, causing the semi driver to lose control.

The vehicle rolled into the median and slid into the westbound lanes of traffic, striking a sport utility vehicle and another tractor trailer.

Two occupants of the SUV - Deborah Whitelow, 41, and Trarella Robinson, 22, both of Ripley - were killed and another was injured.

There were also two people killed in the tractor trailer that initiated the crash: Rodney Price, 49, of Mount Airy, NC, and Brian Lederer, 45, of Woodlawn, VA.

The driver of the second tractor trailer was not injured.
