Sewage hinders some Mid-South residents from leaving apartment

MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - A sanitation nightmare at one Memphis apartment complex is leaving residents trapped inside.

Sleadie Jones moved to the Tillman Cove apartments in October. For months, she has been surrounded by raw sewage.  What should be getting flushed... is right outside her door.

"I'm scared to try to go out the door, I hate to even try to get my mail," stated Jones.

Raw sewage is gushing from the ground outside her unit at the Tillman Cove Apartments.   When a lot of folks are flushing, sewage floats across her walkway.

"In my condition, I'm scared I might fall and slip in it," continued Jones.

Residents are surrounded with the sights, smells, and bugs. The city crews have already flushed the drain. To fix the plumbing problem...that is up to the management.

"I told her that this is the actual sewage breakage. There's a hole right here," explained resident's son Timothy Winters.

When Action News 5 tried to speak with the management, a leasing agent closed and locked the door.

The health department stated Action News 5 will be update on the situation early next week.

The apartment complex Tillman Cove is owned by an investment firm based out of New York. The firm has  purchased at least a dozen distressed properties in Memphis in the past three years.
