COVINGTON, TN -

(WMC-TV) - An 85-year-old woman was robbed of her life-saving medications when someone showed up at her door pretending to be with her drug delivery company.

Lucille Kinney, 85, depends on a breathing machine to keep her alive. She has medicines for that machine delivered to her Covington home each month.

Monday, she went to the door thinking more medicine was being delivered. The man claimed to be from her home medical delivery service, but he was not in a marked vehicle, nor was he in a uniform.

"He looked at the machine over there and looked at that one over there and then asked about my medicine," she said.

She let him in because she thought he was truthful and because she depends on her breathing medication.

"If I walk to the mailbox and back, I'm out of breath," Kinney explained.

Instead of bringing her more medicine and medical supplies, Kinney said the man who came in her home wrote down the numbers off her medications and then took one of her prescriptions with him.

"I depend on that medicine every night. So I had to go to town. I had to get two refills," said Kinney.

Kinney says she learned her lesson when it comes to knocks at the door and warns others to do the same.

"I won't let anybody in unless they tell me who they are and show me some I.D.," she said.

Narcotics investigators in Tipton County are looking into Kinney's case.

They have not made any arrests but say if something like this has happened to you, call the Tipton County Sheriff's Office at (901) 475-4300.
