Open house held for newest Rutherford high school

SMYRNA, TN (WSMV) -

The newest high school in Rutherford County will open its doors to 1,500 students for the first time on Thursday.

On Sunday, thousands of people got a first look inside during an open house.

The marching band helped kick off the open house of Stewarts Creek High School with the school's new fight song.

More than 2,000 people filled the school's gymnasium today.

The school is focusing on career-oriented classes, including criminal justice, agriculture and even dentistry.

"In every realm there's a live classroom," said principal Dr. Clark Harrell. "It's just hands-on real world and not just in classroom, even though there are classrooms for education."

The school is located on the same campus as Stewarts Creek Elementary and Stewarts Creek Middle School on Red Hawk Parkway.

Harrell said the campus, located in southwest Smyrna, is also environmentally friendly.

Freshman orientation will be held at the school on Tuesday.

Thursday will be a two-hour day for Rutherford County students.
