(WMC-TV) - Some students utilizing bus transportation with the unified Shelby County School district were left at school or dropped off at the wrong stops.

It was the first day of school, and many parents say they did not expect a seamless day. But some say the mishaps were too big Monday for them to be OK with it.

Amanda Richie's son was not picked up by the bus from Farmington Elementary School.

"We went into the tables and waited for an hour ... Then went into the office. I was trying to call my dad," said Richie's son, Drew.

Richie says this was the last thing she wanted to hear from her seven-year-old son.

As students returned to school after the summer break it seems chaos took over with transporting students.

Facebook posts surfaced from parents of overcrowded buses, children being left in the wrong location, and buses not showing up at all.

Drew was not picked up for almost two hours.

"I was just a little scared and stuff, and so I was worried I didn't know how I was going to get home," he said.

Richie says she does not blame the school; she is placing the blame with one agency.

"I think they bit off a little bit more than they could chew when they took in the suburbs like this," she said. "The transportation people at the board ... They should have run the routes before today. They knew the numbers that were registered ... I don't understand how this couldn't have been prevented."
