MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) -Monday is the fundraising deadline to save Memphis' historic Nineteenth Century Club from the wrecking ball.

It will take $50,000 for the members of the Nineteenth Century Club to move forward in their quest to save the building from demolition.

Currently, only $40,000 has been pledged and if they don't raise that last $10,000 by Monday, then the historic Midtown building could be history.

Building supporters filed a lawsuit against the club's new owners who want to tear down the building.

There is already a temporary restraining order in place to put those demolition plans on hold.

Attorneys who want to save the Club say the sale of the building violated state law because it was not approved by the full membership. They are now asking the judge to void the sale.

The State Attorney General has also agreed to reopen and review the case, but the lawsuit can only continue if the plaintiffs pay $50,000 in injunction bond money so they can present the merits of the case in court.

If the members can raise the money by Monday and the judge rules in their favor, it could mean they can decide on a new buyer to preserve the building and not tear it down.

The Memphis Heritage Foundation is accepting donations to help raise that bond money. For more information about the effort, call (901) 272-2727 or click here: http://www.memphisheritage.org
