Murfreesboro drive-in theater proposal clears first hurdle

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

Plans for a new drive-in movie theater in Murfreesboro have cleared the first hurdle.

Despite some concerns about traffic, the Rutherford County Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously approved the proposal Wednesday night.

The 500-parking space drive-in is slated for a piece of land on the corner of Old Nashville Highway and Florence Road.

The next step in the process is a review by the Rutherford County Regional Planning Commission.

The developer is Black Eagle Holding, owned by a Rutherford County family. They say the project would create plenty of jobs along with family fun, including an arcade.

The movie screen will also be deep in the trees so drivers and homeowners won't be distracted.

Developers hope to open the site next summer.
