(WMC-TV) - A football coach was reportedly slashed in the face during practice, and a parent was later arrested. It all started because the parent's son was not getting enough playing time.

The parent is charged with aggravated assault, and the coach says he tried to defuse the situation but was not successful.

"I was talking to him," said coach Ludra Beavers. "From the side one of the witnesses ... They say he reached in his pocket, and he hit me in something on the side of the face."

Witnesses say parent, Latorris Franklin, used some type of bladed instrument in the attack that happened at a children's practiced football.

Beavers says Franklin was upset his son was not getting enough playing time. Beavers coaches the championship community football team, Whitehaven Chargers.

Parents pay for their children to play. Coaches are not paid.

Beavers says it is supposed to be a good experience.

"Not only do we teach them about football. We teach them about goals in the community and life learning experience," he said.

Albert Robertson coaches peewee Basketball, but he is also a parent with a child who plays.

"You have to understand you're an adult. You have to stay in control. You stay in control because you want to teach the children you have to stay in control," said Robertson.

No one answered the door at the address police listed for Latorris Franklin who is charged with aggravated assault.

"Lesson for this is, you know, be mindful this is for the kids. This is not about adults. We want everyone to have an outstanding experience. Let the kids enjoy this," said Beavers.

Beavers says he just wants to move on from the experience. Latorris Franklin's children are playing for another team.
