When asked after practice Thursday when he would name a starting quarterback, Tigers coach Justin Fuente said there was no definitive timetable for the decision.
But apparently this weekend was as good as any, and the Tigers are going big and young.
Fuente naming redshirt freshman Paxton Lynch his starter for the season opener.
The 6'6 quarterback has been battling senior Jacob Karam since the start of camp, with Fuente saying all along the competition was wide open.
Lynch threw three touchdown passes including a pair to sophomore Tevin Jones in the Tigers first scrimmage at the Liberty Bowl Saturday morning.
Karam came into camp with all the credentials, throwing for 14 touchdowns last season and just 3 interceptions, the fewest in program history.
The Tigers open against Duke September 7th.
