MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The man hit by a car and left in the roadway Tuesday morning has died as a result of his injuries.

A woman was taken into custody in connection with the hit and run, which happened near the intersection of Farmville Road and Highland Street.

Neighbors say they heard commotion and when they looked outside, they saw the man lying in the street. Many were not surprised by the crime that happened in their own neighborhood.

"Just another day in the hood. We see fights around here all the time," said one neighbor.

For neighbor Stanley Richardson, Tuesday was about keeping his mind on his work, and away from the friend, whom he called "V-Dog".

"Young man, worked every day, you just never know," said Richardson. "He's a good dude though, yeah, he was a good guy."

Officers immediately began searching for a white Lincoln with a red top, which was seen leaving the scene of the accident.

Officers located a woman they believed to have been driving the car about two miles away, but the vehicle was not found.

"I guess she did," said Richardson. "They said she ran over him. Several people out here say she ran over him."

Police would not confirm whether the suspect and victim knew each other.

A cousin or the victim was too emotional to do an interview, but he identified the victim as Vincent Scurlock. He also said he was a father and a good man.

The woman at the center of this investigation is in police custody but has not been charged.
