Memphis releases basketball schedule

Posted: Updated:

The Memphis Tigers have officially released their basketball schedule for the upcoming 2013-2014 season.

Of the 31 regular season games, 25 of them will be played on national television.

The Tigers have the potential (depending on in-season tournament results) to play up to 10 schools that saw action in 2013 postseason tournaments, including eight NCAA Tournament teams (Butler, Cincinnati, Florida, Gonzaga, Louisville, Northwestern State, Oklahoma State & Temple).

The Tigers will also face two of the last three NCAA champions a total of four times (Connecticut in 2011 & Louisville in 2013).

Memphis will host ESPN's College Gameday on Feb. 8th when they play the No. 1 ranked team in last year's final AP Poll (Gonzaga).

The schedule also includes 18 conference games, the most in the program's history.

Their only exhibition game will be against Christian Brothers on Nov. 8th.

The Tigers will open the regular season at home against Austin Peay on Nov. 14th.

Memphis will play its earliest road game (at Oklahoma State on Nov. 19th) since the 1990-1991 season.

The Blue and Gray will tip off American Athletic Conference play on Dec. 31st at South Florida.

The Tigers first home game against an AAC opponent will be on Jan. 4th against Cincinnati.

Memphis will play LeMoyne-Owen College Jan. 18, which is the first time it will play a Division II team in the regular season since playing Christian Brothers in the 2001-2002 season.

The Tigers will begin preseason practice on Oct. 3rd, and Memphis Madness is scheduled for Oct. 18th.
