The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Peter Boyd. In keeping with club policy, details of the agreement were not disclosed.
After being acquired at the ECHL trade deadline from the Bakersfield Condors last season, Boyd, 25, recorded four goals and six assists for 10 points in 10 games with the Stingrays and pitched in a goal in four Kelly Cup Playoff contests. In 50 games with the Condors, the Cambridge-Narrows, New Brunswick, product registered 29 points (18 goals, 11 assists).
Entering his third professional season, Boyd has 79 points (39 goals, 40 assists) in 121 total ECHL games, all with Bakersfield and South Carolina. Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound forward attended Ohio State University for four seasons acquiring 113 points (39 goals, 74 assists) in 159 games. After his senior season (2010-11), Boyd saw action in the American Hockey League with the Lake Erie Monsters, picking up one assist in 11 games.
The Stingrays kick off their 21st season of hockey in the Lowcountry on Saturday, October 19 against the defending Kelly Cup Champion Reading Royals at 7:35 p.m. in Reading, Pennsylvania and celebrate Opening Night, Stingrays Alumni Game, Zooperstars! and 2013-14 schedule giveaway presented by Savage Law Firm at the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday, October 26 against their in-state rivals, the Greenville Road Warriors, at 7:05 p.m.
