CHARLESTON, SC -

Charleston Southern senior linebacker Calvin Bryant has been named National Co-Defensive Player of the Week by The Sports Network for his effort in the Bucs' 32-29 road win over The Citadel on Saturday night. Bryant also collected Choice Hotels Big South Football Defensive Player of the Week honors following a career-high 12 tackle performance in the Bucs' comeback victory.

One of CSU's captains and undisputed leaders, Bryant let his play do the talking against the Bulldogs. His 12 tackles were a career high, and included in that total were 1.5 for loss. Bryant also forced a fumble and recorded one pass break-up. He helped turn the Bulldogs away in CSU territory on their final two drives of the game, preserving the Bucs' first win over The Citadel since 2006.

The Jacksonville, Fla. native came up with several key stops from middle linebacker, as three of his tackles forced fourth down situations, while another two went for no gain. Bryant made three tackles on The Citadel's final two drives, as the Bucs' defense rose to the occasion against a Bulldog offense that ranked 4th nationally in rushing last season.

Bryant shared his accolade from The Sports Network with Eastern Illinois rover Alex McNulty, who intercepted a pair of passes in the Panthers' 40-19 win over San Diego State.
