(WMC-TV) - Ruby Goodwin thought it would be a simple process, hiring a roofer to replace the roof on her home.

That started back in January. It's now September, and now she is out thousands of dollars and still has no roof.

Goodwin wonders if she will ever get her roof fixed. There are loose and missing shingles all over the top of her house. Inside, you can see water damage on her ceiling.

"Makes me sick. Can't sleep at night. Every time it rains, it makes me think I'm getting more damage and I can't go hire another roofer," she said.

She cannot hire another roofer because the company she says she hired months ago, Elite Home Works, still has not done the job.

Goodwin says she hired Johnny Cryer with Elite Home Works to come and do the work.

Cryer was recommended by one of her neighbors.

"He gave me Mr. Cryer's card. He came out. He said on yeah, you've got damage. I can get it completed for you without any money out of pocket. Sounds too good to be true? It was," said Goodwin.

Goodwin's insurance company sent her a check for over $7,500 to start the repairs.

In a signed contract, Goodwin agreed to pay over $7,500 to start the work and then over $7,400 upon completion, which was promised to be completed in May of this year.

Goodwin says she and Cryer entered a verbal agreement for her to pay half of the $7,500 for Cryer to buy supplies to start the job.

"Mr. Cryer came to pick up the check and say he would order roofing supplies. He noticed the check wasn't for the $7,500, and he was concerned about that," she said.

Since signing the contract with Elite Home Works, no work has been done.

Goodwin says she has tried calling Johnny Cryer.

She says she has not been able to reach him.

"It's been weeks. I've been calling and calling and now, today, I've discovered his number is disconnected," saidGoodwin.

She has also filed an official complaint with the BBB.

At Elite's office in Atoka, Action News Five found a closed sign on the door and a "for rent" sign outside.

Action News Five has also reached out to Elite Home Works through their Facebook page.

"Now I'm stuck, nine months have passed and no roof work," says Goodwin.

The Better Business Bureau gave Action News Five two numbers to reach Elite Home Works.

When we called both of them, neither number was taking calls.

The BBB says they are waiting on an official response to Ms. Goodwin's complaint.

If we hear back from Johnny Cryer, we will update the story.
