Dixon cleared to play for Memphis

(WMC-TV) - The wait is over for the Memphis Tigers Basketball Program.

Guard Michael Dixon has been granted a waiver from the NCAA and is eligible to play for the Blue and Gray this season.

"Michael brings a wealth of experience and basketball savvy to this year's squad," said Head Coach Josh Pastner. "He will have to continue to work hard both on and off the court to earn his playing time with the Tigers, but I have every confidence that Michael understands his position and stance with the University."

The Senior Point Guard left Missouri last November after two sexual assault claims became public.

He was not charged in either case, but was released from Missouri and sat out all last season.

Dixon earned Big 12 Conference 6th Man of the Year honors as a Junior, averaging 13.5 points and 3.5 assists in Missouri's 30-5 season, getting a Number 2 Seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The 6-1, 190 pounder enrolled at Memphis in June, and the school petitioned the NCAA for his final year of eligibility.

The addition of Dixon gives the Tigers one of the most experienced backcourts in the country, with Dixon joining fellow Seniors Joe Jackson, Chris Crawford and Geron Johnson.
