(WMC-TV) - Police are investigating a murder-suicide in Hickory Flat after officers found the victim and suspect early Thursday morning.

Keria Bennett just moved to the area with her father and was opening the door last night when investigators believe she was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend. Investigators say he then turned the gun on himself.

"I miss you, and I want you to come back," he said.

Bennett's ex-boyfriend Samuel Gipson died right next to her after investigators believe he shot Bennett in the chest before shooting himself in the head. The young woman's family sat heartbroken questioning a relationship they say had signs of trouble.

"She tried to leave him before, and he would hold her down, and he wouldn't let her leave," said cousin Kristian Cook.

Cook stays across the street and ran barefoot across the gravel hill to care for her loved one.

"I just held her in my arms, and she just twitched one last time ... And that was it, that was it, she was gone," said Cook.

Bennett had just moved back in with her father and was planning to buy a new car after saving her pennies from her job in Olive Branch. Instead this mourning family prepares to bury a life they say was taken much too soon.

"He could have shot her ten times and if the Lord didn't want to take her, he wouldn't have took her, but he called her home," said father David Massey.

Both bodies are on the way to Jackson, Miss. for an autopsy, but deputies are investigating the incident as a murder-suicide.
