(WMC-TV) - Dyersburg police are looking for a bank robber spotted using a cane in his getaway. Whether the suspect needed the cane is part of the investigation of a brazen armed bank robbery that happened in the middle of the day.

Oneal Spoon works across the street from the First Citizens National Bank in Dyersburg.

"I went up to the front door and saw the bank was all tied up. Police cars and everything, all out front lights going," he said.

He and many other downtown workers are shocked someone would rob the bank in the middle of the day. It happened around 11:15 a.m. with many people around and with the police only a couple of blocks away.

Investigators say the bank robber walked over to the alley next to the bank walking with his cane. He was using a quad cane, which has four legs at the bottom. They believe he got into a car, because he was almost immediately gone.

A getaway car was never spotted.

Dyersburg police say unnerved bank employees could not remember if the suspect seemed to need the cane. Some think it could just be part of a disguise.

Police are trying to determine if the suspect really needed the cane. Investigators say he appears to be in his mid- to late-40s.

Dyersburg police say there has not been a bank robbery in at least five years. Police are not disclosing how much the suspect got away with.
