NORTH CHARLESTON, SC -

The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Chad Painchaud. In keeping with club policy, details of the agreement were not disclosed.

Entering his eighth professional season, Painchaud, 27, has 285 points (120 goals, 165 assists) in 306 ECHL contests with Gwinnett, Bakersfield, Victoria, Reading and Chicago. Last season, the Mississauga, Ontario, native helped guide the Wichita Thunder (CHL) to the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Finals with 20 goals and 36 assists for 56 points in 46 regular-season contests and 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 15 playoff games before falling to Allen in Game 7. Selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Painchaud saw 40 games in the American Hockey League with Chicago, Iowa and Manitoba picking up nine points (four goals, five assists).

"I've heard nothing but great things about South Carolina," said Painchaud. "The surrounding area is great, the fans are good and the rink is nice. My wife and I are really excited."

"One of our main focuses this summer was to add some speed and scoring to our forward group and that's exactly what Chad brings," mentioned Carbery. "He has a proven track record of producing offensively at our level and brings a wealth of experience to our team. He helped lead Wichita to Game 7 of the CHL Finals last year and we are expecting him to have the same type of impact in Charleston this season."
