(WMC-TV) - Many supporters of the University of Memphis Tigers are braving the heat Saturday to see the team in action.

Fan Drew Barnett has arguable one of the coolest tailgating spots.

"Considering I was out in the sun earlier, it's amazing," stated Barnett.

Barnett and his friends found one of the few spots under a shady tree.

Other fans are using creative methods to watch the game in the shade without buying tickets.

"We're excited to be out here for the first game, new season, new conference. We look forward to watching the Tigers win today. We've got a big group," exclaimed John Sowell.

Many fans are excited to see the Tigers face new teams and new challenges.

"I hope the Tigers do well, we want them to do (well). The new conference will be a challenge for them," explained Robert Patrick Smith.

For the first time ever, Tigers are joining the American Athletic Conference. Many fans are agreeing even a little heat cannot rain on that parade.

"The heat is great, but I think we're gonna put some heat on Duke today," declared Sowell.
