(WMC-TV) - It is a busy weekend in Memphis with two major events happening in Midtown. The Southern Heritage Classic and the Cooper-Young festival are less than a mile apart.

Police started blocking off roads Friday for the 4-miler race throughout the neighborhood. Drivers will not be able to get through the neighborhood starting at 6:30 p.m. But event crews and police still have a lot of preparing to do.

Traffic will be heavy around the Liberty Bowl. Police say if you are not coming to the game you should avoid East Parkway between Lamar and Union avenues, Hollywood Boulevard between Southern and Union avenues, and Central between Hollywood Boulevard and Cooper Street.

"The big thing is parking, definitely. With all the stuff going on around it's pretty crazy," said CY 4-miler ace director Chris McHaney.

After the race many streets will stay blocked off, specifically the corner off Cooper Street and Young Avenue.

Parking will be available on side streets, though officers say do not block driveways or fire hydrants.

More than 100 officers will be out to help with traffic. They say things will be busiest from noon to about 4 p.m. Cooper-Young Fest wraps up two hours before the end of Saturday's football game. See the Cooper-Young Festivals's map here.
