(WMC-TV) - After a game between Ridgeway and Kirby high schools, a crowd gathered in a period of grief over the loss of their friend Dennis Price, Jr.

Ridgeway High Basketball Coach Wesley Hennings says no words can express the hurt behind losing one of his star players.

"I mean, God, some things happen so unexpectedly," he said.

Price, 16, died in his sleep Sunday from natural causes.

Coach Hennings said Price, who was like a son to him, had not been sick at all. Before Price died, he spent the evening playing Xbox with a friend.

"You've got a healthy young man, everything going great in his life. He's involved. He's focused. Grades are good. People loved him," said Hennings.

Price is affectionately known as DJ by his fellow classmates and friends. They, too, are finding it hard to accept his fate.

"It's gonna be hard, because, like, at the beginning of every game, he would always be in the middle of circle dancing and everybody would be cheering him on. He was one of the star players of the team," said Tridreka Hall.

Friends, family and others said the hardest part of all this is that he was a good kid full of promise.
