NORTH CHARLESTON, SC -

The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Igor Gongalsky. In keeping with club policy, details of the agreement were not disclosed.

Entering his seventh professional season, Gongalsky, 26, has 152 points (62 goals, 90 assists) and 599 penalty minutes in 325 contests in the ECHL, American Hockey League (AHL) and in the Ukraine. Last season, the Kiev, Ukraine, native registered 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points in 33 contests for Berkut Kiev of the Professional Hockey League of Ukraine. In the ECHL, Gongalsky most recently skated with the Gwinnett Gladiators during the 2011-12 campaign and also saw action with the Greenville Road Warriors, Stockton Thunder and Fresno Falcons, totaling 110 points (45 goals, 65 assists) and 374 penalty minutes in 182 games and was Carbery's teammate in Fresno (2007-09).

"Igor is without question one of our most impactful signings this offseason," said Carbery. "I know him very well from his early pro days in Fresno and I've been following his career ever since. He brings a lot pro experience at the AHL level and knows what it takes to be successful in this league. He is strong over the puck and has a large frame that makes it difficult for opponents to move him and get him off the puck. He plays the game with an edge and will create room for some of our skilled players on a nightly basis."

Dressing in 110 AHL contests with Rochester, Portland and San Antonio, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound forward added 13 points (six goals, seven assists) and 193 PIMs. Prior to turning pro, Gongalsky completed a five-year junior career with the Brampton Capitals and St. Michael's Buzzers of the OPJHL and Owen Sound Attack and Oshawa Generals of the OHL.
