Oak Court Mall emergency only a drill

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - An emergency situation outside Oak Court Mall Sunday morning will only be a drill.

The Memphis Police Department and the Shelby County Sheriff's office are working together to lead a large scale joint active training drill at the mall.

The drill will happen before the mall opens to the public.

Viewers will see people playing the roles of injured patients. Those actors will be transported by bus to area hospitals. This exercise is to simulate the emergency room activity that may happen in case of a shooter.

One health officer views the drills as a partnership opportunity.

"Trainings like these are ongoing activities vital to the success of all emergency, medical, and public health organizations. We always welcome the opportunity to partner with the first responders of Shelby County to improve our readiness capabilities," said Dr. Helen Morrow.
