Maybe it was the new all-black uniforms.
Probably not, but something inspired the Memphis Tigers, and kick started their ground game.
The Tigers put up 329 yards rushing against Arkansas State...more than their two previous games combined.
But it wasn't all about the offense.
In the 31-7 victory over the Red Wolves, the Tigers held A-State to just 255 yards of total offense including 74 yards rushing.
A big part of that is credited to junior defensive end Martin Ifedi, who not only led the Tigers with 10 tackles, but tallied 4.5 tackles for loss, the most by any NCAA FBS player this season.
Ifedi is averaging a nation-leading 3 tackles for loss and 1.8 quarterback sacks through the first four weeks of the NCAA season.
