Parents learn former principal is accused of taking inappropriate pictures

(WMC-TV) - A former principal is accused by teachers of using his iPhone camera to zoom in on students' breasts and backsides. After finally hearing why he was let go, parents are furious.

April Kennedy was shocked to read about a new lawsuit filed against her children's former Alcorn Central Middle School principal. The lawsuit was filed by two educators, who worked under former principal Dan Burcham.

"I was pretty much like every other parent, I just wanted to know more about it," said Kennedy.

Since last school year, many parents have been trying to sift through rumors about why Burcham was fired.

"Everything was out in the open and then it just went hush-hush," said Greg Copous, who is a parent..

A few weeks ago, Action News 5 reported that Burcham's educator's license was revoked by the state of Mississippi for evidence that he used his cell phone to take inappropriate videos of female students and employees.

The lawsuit was filed recently by a school teacher and counselor.

"That's terrible. We trust these people, we put our children in their care," said Kennedy.

In a previous news release, the district said investigators found no evidence of any criminal activity in regards to the images, but Alcorn Central Middle School's attorney had no comment about the civil suit.

Burcham cannot teach again for at least five years.

Action News 5's Michael Clark went by his house Thursday afternoon and called his last known attorney in Jackson, but he could not reach anyone for comment about the allegations.
