Williamson Co. coach enters plea after spectator struck by ball

FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -

A former high school basketball coach in Williamson County will serve probation for a play allegedly devised to hurt another student.

Angela Muir was the girls' basketball coach at Summit High School in Spring Hill when, in January, a student spectator was hit by a ball that was thrown into the crowd.

Channel 4 News previously reported that according to the search warrant, the student who was injured was a former Summit player who heckled a current player because she missed a shot.

In a huddle minutes later, Muir and assistant coach Chloe Mayo allegedly designed a play to give the heckled player the chance to hit the other girl the face with the ball and make it look like an accident.

The investigator also wrote Muir allegedly told players, "What is said in this huddle stays in this huddle."

Several players told investigators Muir later warned them not to rat anyone out and that the injured teen got what she deserved.

Muir pleaded no contest in court Monday and was placed on supervised probation. She must also complete 20 hours of public service, undergo anger assessment and write a letter of apology to the school and the team.

Muir is still suspended without pay from her teaching position in Williamson County Schools.

Mayo, the former assistant coach, was not a teacher. Her case was retired, but she also has to do community service and write a letter of apology.
