(WMC-TV) - A man who crashed his truck into a gas pipe Wednesday afternoon nearly hit multiple children as they were getting off the bus.

Highway 51 south of Hernando, Mississippi at Belmont Road was shut down to one lane for clean up.

Scarlett Plemmons was trapped in her house on the highway after a man lost control of his truck, ran over her mailbox and hit the gas pipe to her house.

"It was extremely scary I didn't know where my kids were," said Plemmons.

Her children had just been dropped off by the school bus. At first, she saw the bus but no children. She only saw the man in his truck barreling down the driveway.

"I didn't know if they were, plowed over, if they were standing ... Panic. Complete panic," said Plemmons.

Her husband arrived not knowing what was going on. He could not get past the blocked road.

"It was very scary. I didn't know what to do. I didn't now what was going on," said husband Ronnie Taylor. "The gas was so loud. It was scary."

Taylor says the man driving the truck tried to leave, but two women who saw the children safe on the road crying blocked him in and called police. The man ended up in an ambulance.

Investigators say he had some kind of medical emergency, and that is what caused the crash.

Taylor carried out parts of the man's truck while crews worked to turn off the gas.

The frightened family is grateful no one was seriously injured.

"This man almost ran over my kids," said

Mississippi state police say the older man driving the truck will not be charged.
