(WMC-TV) - The Grizzlies took the court against the Dallas Mavericks for the preseason home opener Wednesday. But another layer of security was added to safety measures at the FedExForum this year.

The Grizzlies organization sent out reminders to fans to arrive early for games to avoid long lines, because they have added hand wands to the entry process for home games.

The hand wands are the new security mandate handed down by NBA officials for all venues.

"We don't want anything coming in here that we don't know if its gonna be safe. So it's good for the fans good security," said Grizzlies fan Danny Moore.

Ushers even seemed to beef up their searches of handbags and shopping bags, but most Grizzlies fans just did not seem to mind. But as always, there were some complaints.

"Well sometimes it can be a little time consuming, but I guess it's worth it," said fan Barry Payne.

Overall fans were more concerned about the team's upcoming season and winning than the inconvenience.

The first preseason game is on the books and behind us. The Mavericks took the win 95 to 90 in a close game.

But it is just the beginning for the hand wands. So as the official NBA season kicks off remember there is a potential for long lines as these security measures are a little tighter.
