MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A southeast Memphis service station was shut down by the district attorney's office Wednesday because of criminal activity, including illegal drug sales and gang activity.

Authorities shut down the Knight Arnold Food and Fuel station until Monday when its owners are scheduled to be in court.

The gas station is located at 5315 Knight Arnold Road.

Customers were unhappy to see it had closed.

"This is the neighborhood store," said Lisa Pollard, who says she shops there several times each day. "This is where everybody comes to."

She continued, "I come in here to get my cigarettes and grab some candy. I don't know what's going on."

Assistant District Attorney Paul Hagerman said criminal activity between January 2012 and July 2013 includes a large number of aggravated assaults, robberies, and illegal narcotics.

In the petition, it says that the area is the intersection of "gang territory" between members of the Avalon Crips and the Vicelords.

"It's just a lot of stuff you see that's not right that goes on over there," said Denise Jones, who owns a day care center next door.

The store will remain closed until at least Monday. That is when the store owner will face a judge.

The DA's office tells Action News Five that between January 4, 2012 and July 23, 2013, there were 34 incidents at this store including aggravated assaults, thefts, vandalism, motor vehicle theft and drug sales.

From July 16 to August 27, 2013, undercover Memphis Police officers made 8 marijuana buys in and around the store.
