(WMC-TV) - A Memphis man is mourning the loss of his brother after finding him dead in a parking lot.

Police responded to a call around 8 a.m. Sunday at the Lincoln apartments near the 1500 block of Chelsea.

Officials confirmed Jose Villareal, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime. He had multiple stab wounds.

Witnesses said Villareal was frequently seen in the vacant lot.

Several Memphians, who preferred to remain anonymous, spoke with Action News 5 off camera.

"Look at the tall bushes over there. The grass [hasn't] been cut since six or seven months," stated the Mid-Southerner.

She confirmed the lower income area is crime-ridden and not much is being done to clean it up.

"Something needs to be done. Anybody can kill somebody and dump them over there late at night ... We wouldn't even know it," she elaborated.

Residents in the Lincoln Apartments admitted they fear for their safety.

"I'm scared to walk down there. [Although] it's much easier for us to walk down the train tracks, I'm going to start taking the street. People can see stuff on the street," one resident said.

Another Lincoln Apartments resident said people just do not care about human life the way they use to.

"[There's] nothing really anybody can do cause it's happening all over Memphis (and) all over the world," explained the individual.

Officers do not currently have a suspect in custody.

If you have any information on the incident, you are asked to call 901-328-CASH.
